Debbie McCune
Director of First Kids
Debbie McCune came to First Kids in 1991. She worked as a group leader while in graduate school. After graduating from Southern Seminary with a Master’s Degree in social work, Debbie continued to work for First Kids.
In 1993 Debbie accepted a position at Lyndon Baptist Church as children’s minister. During this time, Debbie continued to provide training and consulting for various child care centers, including First Kids.
In 1996 Debbie accepted a position as Manager of Family and Children’s programming at Louisville Central Community Centers. Debbie returned to First Kids as the Director in 2001.
As Director, Debbie wanted to recognize First Kids for the quality care and education that the program offered. She applied for the quality program known as Kentucky STARS for Kids Now and began the process of attaining recognition for high-quality care and education. First Kids remained a level 3 STARS for Kids now program until the beginning of the new Kentucky All Stars program. Currently, First Kids is
applying for recognition as a level 4 All Stars program.
Over the years, Debbie has also been involved in state wide organizations associated with early childhood and school age care. In 2003, Debbie was recognized across the state for outstanding work with children and families over the years. She was awarded the Ruth Fitzpatrick Award from the
Kentucky Coalition for School Age Care.
Debbie loves to sew and especially loves to teach children to sew. She also enjoys photography. Debbie and her husband George live in LaGrange and are members of First Christian Church. Debbie loves to spend time with granddaughters Abby and Katie who attend First Kids, and Daisy and Little George who live in Indiana.
