Don Sapienza

Don Sapienza, age 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the loving presence of his family on October 10, 2024 in Louisville KY.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Don began a career in corrections that spanned over 30 years, becoming a highly respected Corrections Administrator.  He was known for his strong will, determination, charm, wit, and sense of humor.  Don was an avid reader with an extensive vocabulary and an incredible memory for history, facts and obscure trivia.  He was a determined gardener and spent countless happy hours in the kitchen sharing his love of cooking with his children and grandchildren while also passing down many family recipes.

Don was fiercely devoted to his family and extremely proud of his Sicilian heritage.  He cherished his wife and delighted in his children and grandchildren with a love that was undeniable and limitless. 

He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, sons Philip “Kier” (Mary) and Michael (Lindsey), daughter Mary Kate, granddaughters Isabel and Sophia, brother Jerry (Kim), sister Mary, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Frances Sapienza, brother Mike and beloved son Scott.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at the First Christian Church of Louisville, 7700 US-42, Louisville KY 40241.  Internment will take place in Camp Nelson National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the music program of First Christian Church (mailing address for the church is P.O. Box 1342, Prospect, KY 40059) or to the Spina Bifida  Association of Kentucky.
