FCC Joins Movement to Provide Care to Kids with Cancer
raiseRED is the largest student-run philanthropic organization on the University of Louisville’s campus. In 2019, the group worked to raise funds and awareness for the UofL Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic and is split between patient care and research. This year-long partnership culminates each year with an 18-hour Dance Marathon to celebrate the steps taken towards the alleviation children’s cancer.
In 2018, the group was able to raise over $601,000 which was used by the clinic for both patient care and for research, including the provision of a full-time social worker and needed medical devices and equipment. In 2019, the group brought in a new record amount, with a total of $682,482.71 raised for pediatric cancer patients.
For the second year in a row, FCC was proud to support Elena Berkenbosch, a member of FCC and a U of L junior majoring in both History and Political Science with a minor in Philosophy in her efforts as a team member of raiseRed. Elena had such an incredible experience with raiseRED during her first year at UoL, she has now become a Team Leader for the organization and finds that one of the most rewarding parts of raiseRED is having the chance to meet some of the children whose lives are changed by the clinic.
