FCC Member Helps Provide Milk to Those in Need

When John Carr passed away earlier this year, he not only left a big hole in the fabric of the Eastern Area Community Ministries (EACM) volunteer family but in that of their client families as well.

John quietly went to Kroger every Wednesday and out of his own pocket, he'd purchase several gallons of milk to donate to our Helping Hands clients. Helping Hands is a program at EACM that works to move families toward lives of greater self-dependency.

Known as "Milkman John", when he stopped coming to EACM, many of the clients noticed: "No milk today?" "Are you going to have milk soon?"

Church member and EACM volunteer Veronica Berkenbosch tells the following story: "I had at least one person ask me about milk once a week. It really hit me when a client told me: " This is the only milk my kids get." That following Sunday, Brian mentioned the Wholeness Ministries and it got me thinking. All I needed to do was connect the dots. Bring the need and the resource together. A couple of conversations and one FCC Wholeness Grant application later and now EACM is able to provide around 25 families each week with milk."

Milk is something many of us take for granted, but when you are struggling to make ends meet, a gallon of milk for your children can mean a lot. Milkman John meant a lot to EACM. Thankfully, Milkwoman Veronica has stepped in to continue his legacy.
