FCC Provides Security for Lifehouse Maternity Home

Lifehouse Maternity Home’s mission is to provide for the spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of pregnant and/or parenting teens and women and their children in a Christ-centered home environment. The residents of Lifehouse are some of the most marginalized members of our community and struggle with a host of emotional and physical challenges. Many have a history of abuse and all are considered high-risk pregnancies. Despite this, Lifehouse has had 80 babies born healthy and drug-free!

First Christian Church was pleased to provide a Wholeness Grant to Lifehouse Maternity Home to fund upgrades to the security system at the home. Since many of the residents arrive at the home after escaping abusive situations, an upgraded security system allows them to feel more safe and secure in their new home.

Thank you for helping make our security system "whole" through this generous grant. ~Dolli Neikirk, Executive Director

To this end, a camera doorbell was added to the front entrance which gives the House Mom a great view of the doorway and street without needing to open curtains or the door. The doorbell also has an intercom allowing those inside to communicate with those at the door while remaining out of view.

Additionally, the main entrance door was upgraded with a push-button for exiting. Previously, the house had a motion sensor that would unlock the door automatically when standing near it but since the house is home to small children and toddlers, this was not practical and was a cause for some concern and the children could trigger the release and push the door open. Now a button must be pushed while pushing the door. The button is situated high enough to prevent toddler access, but low enough for handicap accessibility.

Lastly, the new security system includes a panic button for the House Mom. She will be able to press a button to summon the police if there is ever an instance with an intruder or a dangerous situation with a resident. Knowing that help can quickly be summoned provides additional peace of mind to staff and residents.

Amina and I have been blessed beyond expectations. The love that each of you has for us has shown through with great magnitude. A true reflection of the love of Jesus Christ…. Each woman that exits these doors will be empowered and can empower others with the love you have shown us. ~ Nikki, former resident

The wholeness grant used to fund this ministry was made possible through your faithful financial support of our church and its ministries and help fund a variety of efforts to make our world a better place.
