FCC, Turkish Muslim Community, and Peace Catalyst Int'l Partner to Serve Community

As part of our efforts to build bridges of peace with our Muslim neighbors, an FCC Wholeness Grant was given to help provide half of a cow and three sheep for a local Volunteers of America Center meal program.

Our grant, along with gifts given by the Turkish Muslim Community of Louisville and Peace Catalyst International, allowed us to serve a meal to the center’s residents and clients who are part of their Family Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing Program. The timing of this ministry outreach was tied to a Holy Celebration call Eid. Eid is a major Muslim holiday at the end of the pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca. It also commemorates the story of Abraham nearly killing his own son but God supplying a lamb to die instead of the son. (Muslims teach the son was Ishmael. Christians and Jews believe it was Isaac, just so you will know.) During the Eid celebrations, Muslims sacrifice cows or sheep or goats and share the meat with the poor. This gift of meat is part of that celebration.
