First Christian Church of Louisville has supported Operation Christmas Child, a shoe box ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, for many years. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world by sending a message of hope and love in the form of a shoe box full of small gifts.
This outreach program provides an opportunity for individuals of all ages to be involved in a very simple, hands-on mission project. FCC of Louisville’s Operation Christmas Child wrap-up celebration creates an inter-generational church fellowship for the congregation come together to fill the shoe boxes and prepare them for shipping.
Through the years First Christian Church has provided thousands of Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes to Samaritan’s Purse, typically more than 200 boxes annually. Most of the donations come from church families and supplemental financial support for the ministry comes from a First Christian Church of Louisville Wholeness Ministry Grant.
